Meyer Utility Structures (MUS) is searching for a Plant Welding Tech with Sub-Arch experience.  In this role, you will administer the Fort Worth utility pole manufacturing plant’s welder training program (pole school). The Plant Weld Tech will have strong hands-on welding skills, visual weld inspection experience, and experience training and testing welding candidates. The Plant Welding Tech must be a teacher.

What you'll do: 

  • Oversee the daily pole school operations. 
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing, and qualification records. 
  • Perform hands-on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes. 
  • Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding, and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc. 
  • Perform hands-on pole layout and fit-up training. 
  • Provide additional training (OJT) to production welders as required. 
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required. 
  • Participate in welding improvement projects/other duties as required. 

 

What You'll Need:

  • 3 - 5 years of FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/air carbon arc, and layout/fit-up experience, preferably in the utility structure industry. 
  • Must have Sub-Arch experience. 
  • Able to effectively present classroom training and hands-on welding application training. 
  • Proficient in conducting AWS D1.1 welder qualification tests and generating welder qualification records. 
  • Welding-related associate degree desired. 
  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) desired. 
  • Proficient in using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc. 
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc. 
  • Possess written and oral communication skills.  Bilingual (Spanish) desired. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
